Johnny Jewel annouced his forthcoming album.
The score is Johnny Jewel's tenth solo album of experimental film music, following on from critically acclaimed works Windswept, Digital Rain, Home (OST), and Lost River (OST). Jewel annouced the first single, "The Witch"
in (2023). Johnny Jewel (Chromatics, Desire, Glass Candy) created the original motion picture soundtrack for the Fien Troch-directed film Holly.
Johnny Jewel's project was nominated for the Venice Film Festival and opened for the Ghent Film Festival. Before the full original soundtrack came out in (2023) via his label Italians Do It Better, he shared a preview of it with the lead single “The Witch.” He also announced a run of European tour dates, during which he played sets composing music from his prolific film score discography. Directed and written by Fien Troch, Holly centers around a 15-year-old girl whose school is largely destroyed by a fire one day after she calls out of class. As her community grieves, they begin to see some unspoken quality in Holly that makes her an unlikely source of support, though perhaps at the sacrifice of her own wellbeing.
“I used music to usher in the unseen elements of Holly’s story,” Jewel says in a press release, citing spine-chilling scores by John Carpenter, Goblin, and Tangerine Dream as inspirations. “Underscoring the super-natural overtones of the film, I studied the wind in her hair, counted the plumes of smoke billowing from the burning high school, and stared deep into the howling forest swaying in the distance. The looming music foreshadows and mirrors her gifts. As Holly’s character slowly unravels, the score begins to warp as it’s stretched to an ominously slow crawl.”
Jewel’s tour dates kicked off in Spain in (2023), hitting the cities of Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, and Glasgow. Johnny Jewel also scheduled a tour in Europe in (2024). Unfortunately there are no concert dates for Johnny Jewel scheduled in (2025).
Desire shared the brand new single, “Darkside”, alongside the announcement of their third studio album, Games People Play in (2024). The forthcoming full-length from Desire follows on from Escape (2022) and their self-titled debut, Desire (2009). Desire embarked on a co-healine tour with Johnny Jewel with shows in San Francisco, Dublin, Paris, Manchester and Vancouver, in (2024).
Desire is an electric band formed in Montreal and currently based in Palm Springs. They make synth pop where film, fashion and fantasy collide on the dancefloor. On stage, vocalist Megan Louise theatrically pivots between French and English while drapped in latex from head to toe. From vixens to villain, she turns predator with blood pumping thrill. Carrying the campy torch of vaudeville into this century she is joined by Johnny Jewel on piano and drum machine. Desire has no scheduled tour dates at this time for (2025).
